WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that all people are loved unconditionally by God, and because of that – all are welcomed by the Friars. We don’t believe in living in the past, only serving all those who cross our lives in the present, and we look forward to the challenges of the future. Joy is part of our Franciscan charism, laughter is part of our everyday life, and being “down to earth” is what comes from being part of a fraternity, a community.

HOW WE MINISTER

We live and work in the communities we are supporting. This allows us to see the needs of residents in a more intimate way—and craft more creative, more effective solutions. If we see a woman foregoing food to feed her pet, for instance, we’ll stock pet food in our food pantry. We minister with our lives, together with the people, partners in ministry. And as we minister, we are aware that we do it more by our actions than by our words.

Friars Feed
As Friars, we bring people together by giving them access to nutritious meals and a healthy side of human dignity. In our soup kitchens, we serve our guests like they are patrons in a restaurant. In our food centers, clients find services that are more typical of a grocery store. Each year, our Franciscan ministry sites serve over 800,000 meals to our guests with compassion and respect.

Friars Support
Friars provide a variety of support services to the poor and isposseded. Medical attention, counseling and guidance are given to those most in need. Our rent and utilities assistance programs provide short-term support to people who cannot make ends meet.
HELP SUPPORT
Friars Shelter
For people without homes, Friars provide more than a pillow to rest on. Our shelters and permanent residences treat people as family members, offering showers, fresh haircuts, clothing and medication management. Friars often care for the mentally disabled and dependent who have suffered years of personal and institutional neglect. Our drop-in centers are home-like environments that greet people with warm meals and open hearts.

STEP ONE

DETERMINE BASIC NEEDS
Assessing the needs of those who come to us is rooted in a basic tenant of social work. The client presents their problems as they see and feel it to be. Our Friars and volunteers respond to the problem in the same way.

STEP TWO

DIGNITY NOT JUDGMENT
We do not judge anyone. Friars simply want to be of help and service. Anyone who comes to a ministry is treated with the care and dignity, as every single human being deserves to feel in life.

STEP THREE

MOVE FORWARD
After listening, we then tend to the immediate problem they present. This could be hunger, homelessness or a medical problem. We first assist with any immediate needs, then arrange short range help and lastly plan long term support.
The Franciscan Challenge Campaign is the Annual Fundraising Appeal to Support the needs and works of the Franciscan Friars of Holy Name Province.​

The Franciscan Friars urgently need your support.
